|Expert habitat mapping and habitat modelling expertise for your next project
Accurate fauna habitat mapping and habitat modelling expertise is critical to planning for the conservation management of significant fauna species.
The habitat mapping science
The process of predictive habitat mapping for individual species involves building species distribution models using either statistical techniques or Geographical Information Systems (GIS) tools.
The GIS tools relate species distribution data to environmental variables where there is a sufficiently large and representative sample of species presence/absence data or a defined set of rules, based on knowledge of the species habitat requirements in relation to vegetation communities and geographical variables.
Both approaches merge detailed knowledge of a species’ ecology with advanced GIS analysis to create an accurate habitat mapping result for your project.
Our habitat mapping and habitat modelling expertise
BAAM can deliver expert habitat mapping and habitat modelling by ecologists that have a depth of experience based on years of personal field studies and formal field work combined with GIS analysts that have the required skills and expertise to manipulate complex environmental data.
Our habitat mapping and habitat modelling work
BAAM has developed fauna habitat mapping and habitat models for a range of broad-scale projects to determine biodiversity offset requirements, and has developed habitat mapping and habitat models for biodiversity mapping projects.
BAAM ecologists have contributed to the enhancement of existing databases used for broader scale conservation mapping such as WildNet and that of the Queensland Museum. BAAM staff has also served on the expert panels advising on essential habitat mapping being undertaken by SEQ Catchments for a variety of species.
